They and their plain bags with the store's name boldly
but silently broadcasting their exclusive club membership.

They and their high heels click, click, clicking self-importantly,
persistently proclaiming "I AM HERE and I AM SPECIAL!"

They and their perfect hair that, as a Palace Guard standing at attention,
resists all temptation to fall out of line,

whether it be styled to exude cold professionalism,
or into a facade of hip casualness.

They and their sideways glances for split-second once-overs.
They think I can't see the contempt flitting across their faces,

and, at times, their curiosity at how
ANYONE can be so uncouth.
