You see,
sometimes it is not
a wide open door.
Instead it is a dust caked,
spider webbed and
barely passable crack
in the wall.
And you think
it can't possibly
be worth going
where clearly
no one has gone
in a very long time.
But you question
that wisdom
and take a damned
deep breath of daring
and a not one bit
tentative stride forward
through the cobwebs;
And you are rewarded
with sun drenching warmth
finding entry into each
of your pores.
You know then
that it was fear that
barricaded the passage
and that courage brings
joy that few will know.

About the author:
I'm a hospital administrator trapped in the body of an oil painter and poet. Or maybe a poet and oil painter trapped in the body of a hospital administrator. It changes back and forth...
