Woodpeckers and cardinals at the feeders in early morning.
Christmas lights in December,
The evening news accounts of the wars around the world,
The flag in a stiff breeze in January.
Amaryllis in bloom in February
The kitchen counter cleaned off after the evening meal.
The 'on' light on the electric heater.
Red valentines to warm a cold month
Garnet earrings in artificial light, sparkling.
The beacon light on the phone tower across the field-flashing.
The sunrises and sunsets of winter.
My red winter coat drawn close to by body against the cold.
All flashes of red in a gray landscape to pull us away from the dullness and dormancy of winter.
Sent to us to brighten our days and lighten our hearts and make us reflect on the value and blessings of life.
