First Person
April Turns to May
By Susan Redstone
May 29, 2008

Rain falls
on the greening grass.
Spring gathers her blossoms
and drops them from wet trees
like pink mists
kissing the earth
in flower-petal lipstick.
Clouds turn luminous
and shine
the reflected light of setting sun.
Daylight
wanes
and evening comes
to put us all to bed.
Seedlings sleep
and so do we,
nodding our heads to rest,
quite unable to hold back the dawn
anymore than the flowers can
refuse to bloom,
as April turns to May
again.

How wonderful! A web site that invites me to write. I am an old woman, live in a mud house with two dogs in a multicultural state, much different from the Midwest where I grew up and worked most of my adult life.
