What has happened to the World?
She squeals, "My all time favorite movie
is "GI Jane"!
Oh my God!, I Love that movie!"
Squeal. Squeal.
Sigh...
Another one,
with Black Paint for fingernails,
has four piercings in his head and, with pride,
tells me there are More.
I decline his offer to let me know Where.
He is Porcelain.
With Robin-Egg Eyes.
An Angel Waif
with downy Red Fluff for hair.
Now boldly murdered
with a streak of Deep Purple
hanging like a Curtain over one eye.
His skin is pure and pale.
Like all Red Heads.
Like my father's.
Like my son's.
He was someone's Sweet Baby once. Bathed and combed.
Rocked with simple Love Lullabies.
A Darling Child
who ran Wild across the Green Grass Hair Waving in the Wind.
Run Wild and Innocent
while you Can.
The World too soon will make you Sad.
About the author:
I enjoy the thundering sound of quiet.

An Interview with Heather Masse
In a 2009 interview, Heather Masse tells us about her earliest influences, auditioning in a women's bathroom, and a few memorable moments from A Prairie Home Companion.
Old Sweet Songs: A Prairie Home Companion 1974-1976
Lovingly selected from the earliest archives of A Prairie Home Companion, this heirloom collection represents the music from earliest years of the now legendary show: 1974–1976. With songs and tunes from jazz pianist Butch Thompson, mandolin maestro Peter Ostroushko, Dakota Dave Hull and the first house band, The Powdermilk Biscuit Band (Adam Granger, Bob Douglas and Mary DuShane).
