Enjoy one of Garrison Keillor's top five places in St. Paul—a cruise on the Mississippi River aboard the Anson & Betsey Northrop. This unique vessel combines two large boats to provide one amazing experience. You will be able to walk from one boat to the other.

It’s the mighty and historic Mississippi River with beautiful fall scenery and lots of sights along the riverbanks to enjoy. Some famous must sees — the St. Paul High Bridge, Pig's Eye's Cave, Minnesota River mouth, Pike Island, Fort Snelling, and the timeless splendor of the Mississippi River.

You will start your evening as you are picked up from your hotel and transported to the docks to board your riverboat.

Once aboard, explore the boat while being treated to butler passed appetizers. A buffet dinner will be served in two different dining rooms—so you will have plenty of room to enjoy. This is a perfect way to introduce you to St. Paul—with a leisurely cruise to unwind after a hectic day of travel.

After your cruise, transportation will be provided back to your hotel.

F. Scott Fitzgerald Walking Tour

Departs: 10:45am and 12:45pm
Tour Length: 1 hour and 45 minutes

Depart from your hotel by motorcoach transportation to the Commodore Hotel, the starting point of your walking tour where you will meet your guide. From here you will explore the Summit Avenue neighborhood, focusing on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s biography; his and Zelda’s early years; the impact of St. Paul on his stories and novels; connections to the James J. Hill family and other prominent neighbors; and the importance of the neighborhood to other writers from Sinclair Lewis to Garrison Keillor, Patricia Hampl, and August Wilson.

The tour will also include information on the architecture, social history, and preservation issues for Summit Avenue, named one of America’s “Great Streets” in 2008 and one of the longest and best-preserved examples of a Gilded Age monumental boulevard. Stops include 599 Summit Avenue where Fitzgerald wrote “This Side of Paradise” (first novel), and his birthplace at 481 Laurel Avenue. Your tour will conclude at Common Good Books, where your transportation will be waiting to return you to your hotel.

Your guide will point out highlights on this beautiful street while explaining the rich history of this exquisite neighborhood. Driving past and hearing about the fine mansions that the Twin Cities has historically preserved, is a special treat as you discover some of St. Paul’s finest treasures! Stops along the tour will include a visit to the James H. Hill house, home of the railroad baron and his family; the State Capitol, and the Saint Paul Central Library to see the F. Scott Fitzgerald Reading Alcove. Immediately following Saturday's broadcast (7 p.m.) will be our annual Street Dance and Meatloaf Supper on Exchange St., with cash prizes and gifts for winners in many categories, including the Best Loon Call and Best Dancers (among many others). Mrs. Sundberg is making the meatloaf, so bring an appetite, a warm jacket, and comfortable dancing shoes.
