Hello Garrison! Just wanted to drop a line to tell you that the Saturday Feb.24 installment of The Writers Almanac was very special to me as it conjured up memories from my childhood....isn't that what the great writers do best? Thanks for reading the Ode to Hardware stores, and for the daily gift The Writers Almancac that pops up in my inbox daily! I know todays show was a re-broadcast, but that's OK, Julie and I still loved it! Stay warm and think spring! Mick

Just listened to that re-broadcast from U of M, and your rendition of "My Funny Valentine" damn near broke my little heart. Bravo.
—Jonathan Egan

To: Justin and Sofia
My beautiful husband and wee daughter, I appreciate so much everything that you do to enrich my life. Someday things will be easier for us and we will laugh at all the struggles of a young family. Happy belated birthday my love.

Congratulations on your 25 Years as a Roman Catholic Priest. Let the whole world know of your guilt pleasure for Lutheran jokes, even though they often apply to you given your German heritage.
—John Semanchick

To: Bea Wester

Just love it when you rag on the Lutherans and the choir, since I am one. Perhaps you would like to know that there is a new red hymnal that was introduced to my church, Concordia Lutheran, ELCA, in Chicago, just this past Sunday 2-18. Also, Pastor Nick Zook will be doing imposition of ashes on Ash Wednesday, we will be burning our palms before the service, and we cross ourselves, mighty shocking stuff to someone who was confirmed in 1954 and did not grow up doing that. I always wonder what the Rev. K. Bruno Neuman who confirmed me, would think of all that. Heres to the frozen chosen. And nw Denny Crain is a Lutheran.

Congratulations on 40 years in the priesthood! The Almighty will provide you with the ultimate form of pension. We wish we could celebrate with you.

To: Kathy Beitz
Dear Garrison At the end of last year I have discovered your radio show at KUOW in the Seattle area. It has caught my attention instantly. I love your sense of humor, carefully selected reflecting the small details of the daily life of all of us. With my selected palette of English vocabulary I can only say: "Keep up the good work!!!" ... I need to tell you I am German married to a beauty from the American NW... Maybe you can find a few seconds within one of your shows to say "Kathy, your husband Karsten loves you very much!"... beside hering, caviar and good chocolate for Valentines day... I didn't have... Best regards Karsten Beitz

Would you please forward this message to Garrison Keillor. "I have just read "Lake Wobegon Days" and I am so grateful. I don't think I've ever laughed out loud so much while reading a book. You have a way with words that I really appreciate. Thank you. I will get more of your books, for sure, for sure. Clare Hynes
