Where Could I Go?

Listen

I simply can't forget,
The faces haunt me yet
In the towers that the planes are flying toward,
On a sweet September day
Destruction on the way
Where can I go but to the Lord?

CHORUS:
Where could I go, O Where could I go
Seeking a refuge for my soul
Needing a friend to help me in the end
Where could I go but to the Lord?

I sit down at the screen,
With a coffee, laced with cream,
In my office on the 97th floor
And I pick up a phone
To call my wife at home
And talk about our weekend at the shore.

Her voice on the line
She says the kids are fine
They're getting dressed and off to school they go
She'll see her mom today
And then I see it far away
Following the river, flying low.

It came out of the blue
As disasters always do
There's so much we were looking forward to
A little silver dot
Coming at us like a shot
And who could I find, dear Lord, but you?

CHORUS

Voices I hear
Of panic and despair
Black smoke and flames are at the door
Choking and blind,
I pray for all mankind.
Eternal light shine on us, precious Lord.

We are living day to day
As we walk this earthly way
Soon we shall pass through that door
Where am I bound?
I believe to higher ground
For where could I go but to the Lord?

CHORUS
