Wake up in the morning and haul out of bed, Your mouth tastes bad, there's an ache in your head. And you feel like you've lost a lot of I.Q. And the shower is cold, but what can you do?

Life is just one thing after another. If it isn't one thing it's bound to be the other. If you don't believe me, just ask your mother. Life is one darn thing after another. And another. And another.

You're naked and wet in the cold morning air, And you find a big hole in your underwear. And the only shirt you have that is clean Is the plaid one, lilac and tangerine.

The coffeemaker is busted, doggone, And there's garbage strewn all over the lawn, And the paper is missing, and you can't find the phone, And now you smell gas and it isn't your own.

Life is just one thing after another. If it isn't one thing it's bound to be the other. If you don't believe me, just ask your mother. Life is one darn thing after another. And another. And another. And another.

I could go on and on, but why bother? What can you do? Except blame your father And watch things go from bad to worse And wait for the darkness and sit and curse.

The Mormons and Witnesses have your address, There's a pain in your tooth feels like an abcess And the team that you're cheering you know they will lose, And you paid fifty bucks for a pair of bad shoes.

Life is just one thing after another. If it isn't one thing it's bound to be the other. If you don't believe me, just ask your mother. Life is one darn thing after another. And another. And another. And there's more.

We are all marching to the same drummer Marching toward winter and away from summer And toward ignominy, defeat, and despair, And a great deal more of which we're not aware.

Taxes are high and the stock market's down And nobody cares for me in this town I am misunderstood, no doubt about that, And for the past two minutes I've been singing flat Life is just one thing after another. If it isn't one thing it's bound to be the other. If you don't believe me, just ask your mother. Life is one darn thing after another. And another. And another. And another. And there's more.
