TR: We brought our children to Ocean Grove to find peace and quiet and learn about values, but our children grow up, and maybe now, before they turn 18, is the time to talk to them about the dangers of karaoke. Let them know that it is not OK to sing in public after you have been drinking. Twenty years ago, it was unheard of for someone who was loaded to stand up in a bar and sing "Stand By Your Man" ----- today, it's almost expected of you. You don't have to sing to have a good time. Set a good example and don't sing in the car. Singing in your car has proven to be a gateway behavior to karaoke. And if your kids are walking around with headphones on and singing, don't think that it is harmless. Someday, you could get that phone call that no parent wants to get ----- (SS ON PHONE: Mr. Peterson, this is Electra at The Vicious Poodle ----- your son is drunk and he's singing "Total Eclipse of the Heart" and he won't shut up. Don't let this happen to you. Studies show that parents who talk to their kids about karaoke are less likely to run into problems later. (FN, WITH RHYTHM: I GOT YOU BABE)
